Exchange where concrete questions arise

Working groups and round tables can be set up for a limited time on a specific topic and documented once complete — flexible, and driven by the actual questions of members and partners.

Current working group

Robotics – toward the autonomous construction site

How can the path from individual robotics solutions evolve toward increasingly automated and autonomous construction site processes? An autonomous construction site requires several layers to work together:

  • digital planning
  • reliable data
  • machine & software interfaces
  • navigation & orientation
  • workplace safety
  • process integration
  • human-machine communication
  • economic deployment scenarios

Key questions

Safety

How can people, machines, and robots work together safely on dynamic construction sites?

Orientation and navigation

How can autonomous systems perceive their environment and move reliably?

Data and interfaces

What information needs to be exchanged between planning, the site, machines, and robotic systems?

Process integration

How does a working robot become a properly integrated part of the construction site workflow?

Autonomy

Which tasks can be automated today – and what requirements are still missing?

Economic viability

For which tasks and conditions does an economic advantage emerge?

Background

In 2025, two AIAG round tables titled “Bots und Beton” (“Bots and Concrete”) took place on the topic of robotics on construction sites, with representatives from robotics, construction companies, mechanical engineering, science, and occupational safety. The current working group continues that discussion.

Building with Bits

Exchange on AI applications in planning, project development, and construction management.

Format

Not the single tool. The entire workflow.

Several start-ups or technology providers jointly show how their solutions cover different parts of the same process — starting from a concrete task in planning, project development, or construction execution.

One process

The starting point is a concrete task from planning, project development, or construction execution.

Several solutions

Typically three complementary providers each show a different step of the process.

A shared workflow

How do the solutions build on each other, and what data or interfaces are required?

Discussion from a user perspective

Construction companies and project developers assess the solutions within a real process context.

Possible workflows

Project development

Site and potential analysis → variants → viability → decision proposal

Planning

Existing data → generation → analysis → review → documentation

Tendering and award

From planning information to a structured tender and bid evaluation.

Construction execution

From the planning state to site documentation and progress tracking.

Renovation

From the existing building to a renovation strategy and decision on measures.

Robotics

From the digital model to an executable task for a machine or robot.
